Project  settings - KNX ODBC Import

Menu Edit – Addresses ODBC Import (ESF/XML).

With this dialog KNX addresses can be imported in ESF format or in XML format. Both files are created by the ETS, the ESF format via ODBC Export, the XML format via the export of the group addresses.

The other way round is available next to it: Edit – Addresses ODBC Export writes the addresses of the project back into a file that can be read into the ETS.

In the ESF file format, data types are not exactly defined, for example whether 2 bytes of data length is a floating point number or an integer. Therefore the conversions have to be set manually. For this reason the section is named "Konvertierung ESF" (ESF conversion) and is only shown when an ESF file is imported.

In the XML format the data type of every group address is already included and is taken over directly. If an address has no or an unknown data type, it is imported as bit and a warning is shown in the message window. The data type can be changed afterwards in the preview via the context menu.

• ESF conversion (only when importing an ESF file):
• 1 Byte: 0-100 Percent or Counter (Integer).
• 2 Byte: floating point or Counter (Integer).
• 4 Byte: floating point or Counter (Integer).
• Connected group addresses: The setting applies to all imported addresses, thus also to addresses that do not yet exist in the project. It is only shown when an ESF file is imported, because an XML file does not contain connected group addresses.
• Do not import: No connected group addresses will be imported.
• Merge: Connected group addresses are added to existing ones.
• Replace: Connected group addresses are taken over, existing ones are deleted.
• Existing addresses: These settings only affect addresses that already exist in the project.
• Import new addresses only: Only addresses that do not yet exist in the project will be imported.
• Keep data type: If an address already exists, the data type will not be changed, only if an address does not exist yet, it will be imported according to the settings.
• Keep comment: If an address already exists, the comment is not overwritten.
